Augustinian monastery in Česká Lípa

The Augustinian monastery in Česká Lípa is a complex of religious buildings centered on the Church of All Saints, constructed in the early 1600s. The structures combine functional chapel spaces with residential and administrative quarters that were typical of monastic communities during that period.

Albrecht von Wallenstein founded the monastery in 1624, which launched a period of religious activity and education in the area. The community that formed there played a role in the development of northern Bohemia during the following centuries.

The monastery buildings now serve as a museum and gallery space, displaying mineral collections and objects that reflect the lives and interests of people in this region. Visitors can see how local heritage was preserved and presented to the community over time.

The monastery sits in the center of Česká Lípa near Náměstí Osvobození square and is easily reached on foot. Entry is through the main gate on the square side, from which the different parts of the complex can be explored.

The Loretan chapel was completed later, in 1698, showing a building style that was uncommon in this part of northern Bohemia. This addition reveals how the complex continued to evolve and change hands through different periods and architectural influences.
