Houtyš, Restaurant in Tschechien
Houtyš is a restaurant building in Dejvice originally constructed in 1927, featuring a small bar, intimate rooms, and kitchen that could seat about fifty guests. A glassed-in veranda was added in 1933 to accommodate more visitors.
The building was constructed in 1927, and a year later a small restaurant called 'Na pískách' opened under the management of Alexander Tyšer and his wife. By the 1970s, the place became known as Houtyš, a nickname derived from 'Hostinec U Tyšerů'.
Houtyš served as a gathering place for local artists, musicians, and writers who performed regularly and shared creative work. The restaurant hosted concerts, art exhibitions, and literary events that shaped the cultural life of the neighborhood.
The original building no longer operates as a restaurant, as the interior has been converted into office spaces. Visitors can view the exterior and a commemorative plaque from 2013 that marks the site's historical significance.
The place earned its nickname Houtyš as an abbreviation of 'Hostinec U Tyšerů', named after the family who ran the restaurant for many years. On Sundays, it was customary to hear piano music and play billiards or card games.
