Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Kladruby monastery

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Kladruby is a church building rising above the monastery and blending Gothic and Baroque architectural features. The structure displays a dome topped with a golden Marian crown and dominates the monastery grounds with its presence.

The monastery and church were founded in 1115 by Prince Vladislav I and later underwent major reconstruction. Between 1712 and 1726, architect Jan Santini Aichel directed significant rebuilding work that shaped its current appearance.

The church has hosted the Kladruby Summer Music Festival since 1977, with classical music performances held in its grand interior throughout warm months. These concerts take advantage of the space's acoustic qualities and draw music lovers from across the region.

Visitors can choose between guided tours that explore the building's past and later uses. The grounds are easy to walk through and the interior spaces are straightforward to navigate.

The building was later repurposed as a residence for the Windischgrätz family, showing an unusual chapter beyond its religious function. This dual use remains visible in the room layouts and decoration today.
