The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is a three-nave church building in Neo-Romanesque style, built with characteristic architectural features of the late 1800s. The structure displays the craftsmanship of its era through its organized interior layout and decorative elements.

The current building was completed in 1899 and replaced a Gothic church from the 1300s that could no longer hold the growing population of Kladno. The new church was built during a period when the town was rapidly transforming into an industrial and mining center.

The church stands on the site of a Gothic single-nave building documented as early as 1352, which was repaired repeatedly in the 16th century and in 1675, 1690, 1695, 1739–1740, 1771 and 1842 before being demolished in 1897. The cemetery around it had already been closed in 1814.
