Church of Saint Mary

The Church of Saint Mary is a wooden structure in Broumov, constructed from massive oak beams joined without nails and featuring timber-frame walls. The building sits within the cemetery and displays the traditional wooden joinery methods used in its construction.

The church originated in the 13th century and ranks among the oldest wooden religious buildings in central Europe. It underwent various structural changes throughout the centuries but maintained its core wooden framework.

The galleries inside display tombstones from Renaissance and Empire periods, showing the craftsmanship of local stonecutters over centuries. These monuments reveal who lived and died in this community.

Entering the interior requires advance notice through the Broumov tourist office, as the church does not remain continuously open to visitors. Plan your visit ahead and check opening times before making the trip to the cemetery.
