Vydřiduch, Castle ruin in Svojkovice, Czech Republic.
Vydříduch is a castle ruin situated on a western hillside near Svojkovice at about 430 meters in elevation. The site preserves fragments of the outer fortification ditch and portions of the southeastern corner from its medieval structure.
The fortress was established in the 13th century and functioned as a royal stronghold along the Prague-Plzeň trade route. Over time, most of its structure was dismantled through stone quarrying activities, leaving only fragments behind.
The site once belonged to the Lords of Rožmitál and later to the Colloredo-Mansfeld noble family, names still connected to this region's past. Walking here, you sense the weight of centuries of local rule and territorial presence.
You can reach the ruins by following a forest path from road II/605, turning left at the clearing toward the remaining castle ditch. The route is straightforward but requires sturdy shoes and care on uneven ground.
The castle site was largely quarried for stone, causing nearly all visible structures to vanish from the landscape. Today, only a few traces like the ditch and wall fragments hint at the fortress's former extent and importance.
