Kostel Zvěstování Panny Marie, Baroque church in Mariánský Týnec, Czech Republic
Kostel Zvěstování Panny Marie is a Baroque church in Mariánský Týnec built with a Greek cross floor plan topped by a central dome. Four corner towers surround the building and connect through covered passageways.
Construction started in 1711 when architect Jan Santini Aichel designed the building to replace an older pilgrimage church from the previous century. The new structure was built on the same sacred site where the earlier chapel once stood.
The name refers to the Annunciation of Mary, reflecting the pilgrimage significance this place once held. Visitors can see marble altars and painted ceilings that show how religious devotion shaped what this building became.
The complex now functions as part of a museum and gallery featuring cultural exhibitions and guided tours. It is helpful to check opening times before visiting since the building operates as an active cultural space.
A modern corner chapel dedicated to the Sacrifice of the Lord was built in 2012, adding a new layer to this historic site. The eastern covered walkway underwent significant restoration work from 2017 to 2020, bringing the building into its current condition.
