Church of Saint Barbara in Zahrádky, Baroque church in Zahrádky, Czech Republic

The Church of Saint Barbara in Zahrádky is a baroque building distinguished by rounded forms and decorated stone elements across its exterior walls. The structure sits on elevated ground and displays the proportions typical of smaller regional churches from this period.

The church stands on the site of the vanished medieval village of Mnichov, whose parish is first recorded in a papal tithe register of 1352. The present building has a Renaissance origin dated to 1550, possibly 1582, and was later rebuilt in baroque form. Archaeology in 1976 found Gothic foundations of a bell tower from the second half of the 15th century and pottery showing the plateau was settled by 1319.

The church is a filial church of the Roman Catholic parish of Holany, with Mass celebrated every Sunday at 9:30. In May 2014 it took part in the Night of Churches. The wooden pulpit, the large three-armed gallery and the main altar survive; the original painting of Saint Barbara on the altar was stolen after 1990.

The church stands about 1.5 km south of Zahrádky; a red-marked hiking trail (international route E10) leads to it from the burnt-out chateau, mostly along the road to Borek. Mass is held on Sundays at 9:30. The grounds include a bell tower, baroque staircase, perimeter wall and damaged statues of St Jude Thaddeus and St Wenceslas.
