Letovice Castle

Letovice Castle stands on a high hillside and combines Gothic and Baroque architectural elements throughout its restored exterior and interior. The building displays a mixture of different building styles that shape its appearance and layout.

The castle was founded around 1360 and initially belonged to the lords of Letovice before being destroyed by Hussite forces in the 15th century. This early destruction marked a turning point in its history.

The castle museum displays an exceptional collection of paintings that visitors encounter while walking through its rooms. The artwork reflects how art lovers accumulated treasures here across different periods.

The castle can be visited without guided tours and provides access to restored rooms and areas still undergoing renovation. Visitors should allow time to explore as different parts of the building are in varying states of completion.

In the cellar there is a corridor called Dragon's Slug with a large dragon figure at its end, leading to an underground restaurant. This unexpected art feature creates a surprising connection between history and modern use.
