Church of Saint Wenceslaus in Letovice, Catholic church in Letovice, Czech Republic

The Church of Saint Wenceslaus in Letovice is a house of worship with traditional Czech architecture, marked by stone walls and a bell tower. The building is part of the monastery complex and shapes the town's appearance with its vertical profile.

The Baroque church was built between 1751 and 1773 and consecrated in 1774 as the monastery church of the Hospitaller Order of Saint John of God. In 1930 a new floor was laid and the interior repainted; lightning damaged the tower on 29 August 1932, and it was repaired the following year. In 1997 the Brno sculptor Jiří Netík installed the Stations of the Cross.

The church is the monastery church of the Hospitaller Order of Saint John of God, whose community serves the adjacent monastery. Its 1895 bells carried reliefs of Saint Wenceslas, Saint John of God, Saint Barbara and Saint John of Nepomuk, and the 1969 bells were tuned to a1, c2 and d2. The 1997 Stations of the Cross were carved by Brno sculptor Jiří Netík.

The site sits centrally in Letovice and is easy to reach via the main road through town. Visitors should wear appropriate clothing and be aware that this is an active place of worship.

The tower was struck by lightning on 29 August 1932 and repaired the following year. Its bells have been recast and replaced repeatedly: three were bought in 1895, two were seized in World War I, and the Germans took the later set to Hamburg in World War II. The current bells were cast in 1969.
