Kurovický lom

Kurovický lom is a former limestone quarry with a central lake and several ponds located south of Kurovice village. The water bodies formed in abandoned extraction areas and now attract visiting naturalists and those interested in geological formations.

Limestone extraction at this location spanned multiple decades, leaving deep pits that gradually filled with water. In 1999, authorities recognized the site's geological and ecological value and designated it as a protected natural monument.

Local environmental organizations conduct guided tours and educational programs about the geological formations and native species within the natural monument.

The site is accessed via a single road from Tlumačov where bicycles must be left and visitors continue on foot. The fenced area is clearly marked and sturdy footwear is recommended since paths can be uneven or muddy.

Security personnel monitor the site during daytime hours to prevent trespassing while allowing photography and scientific research. This arrangement lets nature enthusiasts and researchers explore the location while keeping the sensitive environment protected.
