Körnerův dub, Ancient oak tree in Dalovice Castle Park, Czech Republic
Körnerův dub is a powerful oak tree in Dalovice Castle Park, rising approximately 15 meters (49 feet) high. Its trunk has a circumference of about 887 centimeters (350 inches) and stands in the central area of the park.
During the Thirty Years War, Emperor Ferdinand III ordered protection for nine ancient oaks in Dalovice for military purposes. This tree was among the few that survived that period.
The tree was named in 1863 to honor German poet Karl Theodor Körner, who visited the area in 1811. This naming connects the place to Central European literary history.
The tree is easy to find since it stands in the central area of the castle park and is clearly visible. Visitors should know the trunk sustained fire damage and is now under legal protection.
At approximately 700 years old, this oak ranks among the six largest in the Czech Republic. It appears in an international catalog of significant trees and receives recognition from experts worldwide.
