Liechtenstein Palace, Baroque palace in Malá Strana, Czech Republic
Liechtenstein Palace stands on Malostranské náměstí, combining Baroque and Neoclassical design with ornate decorative details and generous proportions throughout its structure. The interior displays elaborate stucco work and artistic embellishments that reflect the building's grand original purpose.
Construction began in 1697 under architect Giovanni Battista Alliprandi, marking a period of aristocratic expansion in Prague's Lesser Quarter. The Liechtenstein family established this as one of their primary residences in the Bohemian capital.
The palace now hosts the music faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts, where students study and perform within one of Prague's most impressive Baroque structures. The concert hall regularly draws audiences to this historic setting for musical events.
Visitors can attend concerts at the Bohuslav Martinů hall, which seats about 200 people and hosts regular performances by the music faculty. It is best to check beforehand when public events are held, since not all areas of the building are open to visitors at all times.
This building is one of two Liechtenstein palaces in Prague, with its counterpart standing on Kampa Island, both reflecting the family's prominence in the city. The existence of these twin structures demonstrates the Liechtenstein family's sustained influence and resources across different neighborhoods.
