Church of Saint Michael, Baroque church in Vernéřovice, Czech Republic

The Church of Saint Michael stands on a hill in the middle of Vernéřovice cemetery. Its oval nave measures 26 by 16 metres, with ten pilasters projecting from the walls, a flat ceiling, a west tower and a sacristy (5 × 4 m) with a barrel vault on the east. The main entrance beneath the tower bears a dedication to Archangel Michael and the year 1719.

The present church was built from 1719 to 1722 under Abbot Otmar Daniel Zinke, replacing a wooden church of 1540 enlarged by Abbot Thomas Sartorius in 1683. Its design is attributed to Christoph Dientzenhofer, though this is not documented. The marble plaque above the main entrance bears the Latin dedication to Saint Michael and the year 1719.

The church is dedicated to Archangel Michael; the main altar shows Antonín Felix Scheffler's painting of Michael's apparition on Monte Gargano in southern Italy, flanked by statues of the archangels Raphael and Gabriel. Mass is held on the second Sunday of each month at 10:30.

The main entrance under the tower carries a marble plaque with the Latin dedication "PRINCIPI CÆLESTIS EXERCITUS S. MICHAELI DEDICAT O.A.B.", signed by Abbot Othmar Zinke, with the year 1719 marking the consecration. In the vestibule lies the gravestone of Blasigen Meissner II (†1579).
