Castle Litice by Plzeň

Castle Litice is a medieval castle ruin situated on elevated ground near Plzeň with defensive walls and a moat visible today. The remains display Gothic architectural elements that span different periods of occupation.

The Drslavic family built the fortress around 1300 and named it after their original settlement in the region. It later came under the rule of Bohemian kings and became part of royal holdings.

The ruins display stonework and inscriptions from the 1400s that reflect medieval Bohemian noble architecture. You can still see the craftsmanship details that were typical of that period.

The ruins sit near Plzeň and can be reached via U Hradu street in the Litice area. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes since the ground is uneven and some parts of the structure are not fully stabilized.

Archaeological digs here have unearthed artifacts from ancient cultures that lived long before the castle was built. These findings reveal that the location served as a settlement site for many centuries before the medieval fortress appeared.
