Church of Saints Peter and Paul, church in Klatovy District of Plzeň region
The Church of Saints Peter and Paul is a Romanesque church building from the 12th century located on a gentle hill in Albrechtice. It features a sturdy square tower with double windows, thick stone walls, and an interior vaulted ceiling added in the 1700s that creates a rounded sense of space throughout the building.
Construction began after 1150 in the Romanesque style of that era. In the 1700s, the building was modified with baroque touches while keeping its core structure intact. Between 1800 and 1850, significant restoration work added new features including a repaired organ, a cast bell, and religious paintings throughout the interior.
The church is dedicated to the apostles Peter and Paul, central figures in Christian tradition. The graveyard walls feature small painted chapels from the 1800s that commemorate local residents, creating a quiet space where the community reflects on its past and honors those who came before.
The church sits near local walking paths on a hillside and can be easily spotted during daily strolls through the area. Access is available occasionally since the building functions primarily for worship services and is not open continuously for casual visits.
Two old gravestones from the late 1500s and early 1600s honor the knight Bohuslav Oudrazsky and his children, connecting the place to local nobility history. These rare stones tell the story of the region's aristocratic past and remind visitors of the families who shaped the community long ago.
