Oppidum Závist

Oppidum Závist is an extensive fortified Celtic settlement situated on hills overlooking the Vltava River. The complex is defined by earthen ramparts, wooden palisade systems, and multiple entry points distributed across the site.

The settlement emerged during the Hallstatt period and flourished in the early La Tène period, when it became one of Europe's largest centers. It formed part of a trading network that extended to the Mediterranean region.

The settlement displays evidence of skilled craftsmanship and trade connections across Europe during the Celtic period. Visitors can observe the layout of workshops and residential areas that reveal how this community lived and worked together.

The site is accessible on foot with marked trails through the archaeological areas and information boards at key points. Sturdy footwear is advisable since the terrain is hilly and uneven in places.

Excavations uncovered not just everyday tools but also valuable objects like imported glass and bronze vessels from distant lands. These discoveries show that residents were wealthy and controlled important trade routes.
