Palác Dunaj, Constructivist palace in New Town, Prague, Czech Republic
Palác Dunaj is a constructivist building at the corner of Národní and Voršilská Streets, featuring a yellowish travertine facade with white bands across its upper floors. The structure contains approximately 8,800 square meters of office and commercial space, blending modern technology with architectural elements from the 1920s.
The building was constructed in the 1920s using the constructivist style, a modern architectural direction of that era. The site previously lay within medieval Prague, where a moat once separated Old Town from New Town.
The building now functions as offices and commercial spaces, though its original role as a palace has transformed into a modern workplace. Visitors walking through can observe how the space has adapted to serve everyday business needs while keeping its early 20th century character.
The building sits at a central street corner and is easily reached on foot. Visitors should note that it is primarily office space, though some areas may be accessible to the public depending on current use.
The paternoster lift from 1936 still operates today and is one of the few functioning examples of its kind in Europe. This endless elevator without doors offers visitors a nostalgic riding experience from the early 20th century.
