Palác Hložků ze Žampachu

The Palác Hložků ze Žampachu is a baroque palace in Prague's Hradchany district. The facade displays ornamental carved details, pilaster divisions, and symmetrical proportions, while the interior contains spacious rooms with stucco-decorated ceilings and original baroque-period finishes.

The site was transformed in the 17th century by the nobleman Albrecht Hložek into a representative palace after smaller houses previously occupied the location. This renovation was part of the development of the castle district as a residence for wealthy nobility.

The palace bears the name of a prominent family whose coat of arms and initials are carved into the facade. These details reflect the building's connection to a wealthy Prague noble family who shaped it as a symbol of their wealth and social standing.

The building sits in a steep neighborhood with cobblestone streets and historic lanes that require walking to explore. Public access is limited because it currently serves a diplomatic function.

The building underwent extensive restoration in the 1920s that returned it to its original baroque form, with damaged elements carefully reconstructed. This renewal shaped the appearance and substance visitors see today.
