Palác Thurn-Taxisů, Neoclassical palace in Malá Strana, Prague, Czech Republic
Palác Thurn-Taxisů is a Neoclassical building arranged around a square courtyard with its main facade facing westward toward a garden on Letenská Street. The structure currently houses a kindergarten and educational facilities of the Anglo-American University of Prague.
The building was constructed in 1726 by architect František Maxmilián Kaňka on the foundations of two earlier Baroque houses commissioned by Count von Daun. The Thurn and Taxis family acquired it in 1814 and shaped its role in the centuries that followed.
The Thurn and Taxis family shaped the building from 1814 onward through their influence on European postal networks and local society. Their legacy remains visible in how the space serves educational and cultural purposes today.
The palace sits at 5 Letenská Street in Malá Strana and can be easily found while walking through the neighborhood streets. Since the building houses educational institutions, access to most interiors is limited during regular hours, though the courtyard and facade can be appreciated from outside.
The building underwent complete renovation in 2014, transforming parts of its interior while preserving its educational role. This extensive modernization blends the Neoclassical architecture with contemporary needs and shows how historic structures continue to serve living communities in modern Prague.
