Podolí Waterwork, Water treatment facility in Podolí, Czech Republic
Podolí Waterwork is a neoclassical complex situated on the right bank of the Vltava River between Vyšehrad and the Swimming Stadium. The installation incorporates filtration systems and water towers designed to work as an integrated facility.
The facility was built from 1925 to 1929 under the design of architect Antonín Engel and replaced an earlier water station. The new construction became necessary as Prague's population grew and water demand increased.
The facility houses a museum that traces how Prague sourced and managed its water supply across different periods. Visitors can explore exhibitions showing the evolution of water technology through various methods and innovations.
The site sits along the river and can be reached on foot from nearby Vyšehrad. An observation platform provides views where visitors can orient themselves and survey the surrounding area.
The facility can increase its output from 500 to 2,200 liters per second when needed and now serves as a backup water source for the city. This flexibility allows it to support steady supply during periods of high demand.
