Měšťanská beseda, Cultural centre in Jižní Předměstí, Plzeň, Czech Republic
Měšťanská beseda is a three-storey rectangular building on the south side of Kopeckého sady, completed in 1901 by builder František Kotek to a design by Alois Čenský. Its symmetrical facade has a central bay crowned by a gilded onion dome and side gables with allegorical paintings by Láďa Novák. Inside, a covered atrium separates a club wing with an Art Nouveau café from a hall wing containing the Large Hall.
The building opened in 1901 based on a design by architect Alois Čenský, who won a competition for the project. The organization itself was founded in 1862 as a gathering place for the upper classes of society.
The building hosts multiple performance spaces that regularly feature concerts, exhibitions, and theatrical shows. Visitors experience the city's cultural life through diverse artistic programs offered throughout the year.
The building stands on the south side of Kopeckého sady, between the magistrate at No. 11 and the U Treybalů house at No. 15. A covered atrium divides the club front from the hall rear, and a modern courtyard extension added in 2001–2004 gives step-free access to all parts.
The front section of the building is called the club section and holds the Art Nouveau café, a restaurant and, in the basement, Divadélko JoNáš. The rear hall section contains the Velký sál, the most ornate room, with the adjoining Klostermann and Křižík halls and the Malý sál on the ground floor.
