Vražda, Protected natural pond in Jinolice, Czech Republic
Vražda is a protected natural pond in the village of Jinolice and represents the smallest of three water bodies within the Jinolické ponds system. The shallow pond spans approximately 2 hectares at an elevation of about 315 meters and is surrounded by wetland meadows.
The pond received its name in 1866 during the conflict between Prussia and Austria, when Austrian soldiers lost their lives in its waters. This tragic event left such a mark on the local memory that the name has persisted to the present day.
The wetland meadows around the pond support rare plant species including globe flowers and orchids that thrive in the moist soil. These protected plants make the site an important refuge for specialized vegetation.
As a protected natural monument, swimming and bathing in the pond are not permitted, unlike the neighboring ponds in the same area. The best way to visit is to take a peaceful walk around its banks to observe the surroundings and plant life.
Near the forest edge stands a memorial marking the spot where Austrian soldiers perished during the 1866 war in these waters. This quiet location serves today as both a nature reserve and a historical reminder.
