Rychvald

Rychvald is a castle ruin and cultural monument in Lysice that preserves remnants from multiple periods, including Renaissance elements and parts of the original water moat. The building displays 19th-century masonry and surviving structures of the western wing from the fortress's earliest phase.

The first stronghold was constructed around 1480 by the Lords of Kunstat and later transformed into a Renaissance residence under the Breznicky family's ownership. Over centuries, the structure underwent multiple renovations reflecting changing architectural tastes.

The name originates from its function as a fortified residence for local nobility, and visitors can sense how important this building was to the region's social structure. The spaces reveal how the ruling families lived and valued artistic design.

The location is accessible to visitors and offers regular guided tours covering the main structure and surrounding grounds. Marked pathways guide guests through the site, making it navigable for people of varying mobility levels.

A notable feature is the Renaissance gallery that was cleverly converted into a covered pergola colonnade, a project completed by master masons Frantisek Vasicek and his son Kajetan in 1807. This transformation demonstrates how older spaces were imaginatively adapted for new purposes.
