Svatobor, Mountain summit near Sušice, Czech Republic
Svatobor is a mountain summit near Sušice rising to 845 meters above sea level. Forest paths and multiple hiking trails crisscross the slopes leading to a television tower where visitors can enjoy views from an observation platform.
In 1748 Count Jan Ferdinand Desfours built a chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Help near the summit. This religious structure marked an important shift in how the mountain became recognized as a place of pilgrimage.
Local folklore connects this summit to the legend of priestess Vodolena, whose burial supposedly created a healing spring in the area. The mountain carries spiritual meaning for people who visit because of these ancient stories tied to the landscape.
A marked 8-kilometer hiking trail climbs from Sušice town square to reach the summit. Free parking is available near the tourist intersection below the tower, making access straightforward for most visitors.
A former spa facility called Vodolenka once operated at the base of the mountain and treated patients including celebrated composer Bedřich Smetana. During the 1960s the building found new purpose as a youth pioneer camp.
