Sekvojovec v Chabaních, Giant sequoia tree in Chabaně, Czech Republic.
Sekvojovec v Chabaních is a giant sequoia reaching about 32 meters tall with a trunk circumference of roughly 6 meters, making it the largest tree of its kind in the Czech Republic. The specimen grows in the village of Břestek and stands out immediately for its impressive scale.
The tree was planted in 1872 by Count Zikmund II Berchtold, who also established two other sequoias at the same location that did not survive to today. It stands as the sole remaining evidence of a mid-1800s planting effort.
The tree holds protected status recognized for its botanical and visual importance within the regional landscape of the Chřiby Nature Park.
The tree is accessible year-round with parking available nearby, and the closest bus stop at Břestek-Chabaně is about one kilometer away. Visitors can walk by freely to view the giant sequoia from different angles.
In 1972 the tree was struck by lightning, yet instead of dying back it responded with an unusual growth pattern. Four new tops emerged from the injury site, with the tallest reaching about 8 meters in height.
