Garden of Troja Castle, Castle park in Troja district, Prague, Czech Republic
The Garden of Troja Castle is a park with multiple levels shaped by geometric patterns, fountains, and decorated flowerbeds. Wide, straight pathways connect the different sections throughout the grounds.
The garden was created starting in 1685 by Count Václav Vojtech of Sternberg following a design by Jiri Seeman. Work finished in 1691, establishing one of the region's early Baroque gardens.
The garden displays French Baroque style through numerous terracotta vases and busts that catch your eye throughout your walk. The statues and allegorical figures created by Sebastian Bombelli still shape the overall appearance of the place today.
The garden is open from April through October, mainly Tuesday to Sunday. Wear sturdy shoes to navigate the different levels safely, and be aware that the pathways can become slippery in wet weather.
The eastern area contains a circular maze formed by hornbeam hedges connected to water features. This section borders the former Saint Clara vineyard and creates a striking contrast with the formal design elsewhere.
