Skanzen Vysoký Chlumec, Folk architecture museum in Vysoký Chlumec, Czech Republic.
Skanzen Vysoký Chlumec is an open-air museum with fourteen historical buildings from different regions of Bohemia showing traditional rural construction. The collection includes farmhouses, barns, granaries, and other agricultural structures spanning several centuries.
The displayed buildings date from the 17th to 19th century and were moved from their original locations to this site. A barn from Durdice and granaries from Budeč exemplify the regional construction methods of that period.
The place shows how people lived and worked in the countryside, with old craftsmanship and farming methods still visible in the structures and grounds. You can see how daily rural life unfolded and how families used their homes and outbuildings.
The museum is best explored on foot since the buildings are spread across a site that is manageable to walk through without rushing. Proper footwear is recommended, especially if it has rained or the ground is wet.
Since 2012, the museum has pursued the aim of becoming the Museum of the Czech Village, showing how rural life changed across centuries. This development makes it more than just a collection of old buildings, but rather a story of transformation.
