Týnec, Baroque château in Týnec, Plzeň Region, Czech Republic

Týnec castle is a baroque château in the centre of the village of Týnec, southwest of Klatovy on the road to Železná Ruda. It was built in the early 18th century to plans by Giovanni Battista Alliprandi for the Kolovrat family and is counted among the first examples of High Baroque residences in Bohemia.

The castle was built shortly after 1700 for Maxmilián Norbert of Kolovrat, with construction between 1704 and 1710 according to plans by Giovanni Battista Alliprandi. His son Jan Josef Krakovský of Kolovrat gave it its present form around 1760. In 1927 Jindřich Kolovrat-Krakovský sold it to Jaroslav Polívka, who converted it into a luxury hotel that soon went bankrupt.

The castle's name, Týnec, comes from the village that surrounds it, southwest of Klatovy toward Železná Ruda. The Kolovrat family built it shortly after 1700, and Jan Josef Krakovský of Kolovrat gave it its present form around 1760. A French park originally surrounded the building and was remade as an English park in the 19th century.

The castle was bought in 2000 by art collector Jan Pelánek, who began its gradual restoration; the building had earlier been mortgaged to a bank by a private firm after 1989. It has been a national cultural monument since May 2014.
