The Naučná stezka Mnichovské hadce is an educational trail through a protected forest area near Nová Ves that covers several kilometers. Nine stations positioned along the route explain the local geology and natural features visible in the landscape.
The trail was established in 2008 and reveals areas where tin ore was once mined. The location also holds darker history, as a prisoner of war camp operated here during World War II.
The trail passes by the Dlouhá stoka water channel, which shows how medieval miners used water for their work. This old waterway is an example of the practical skill that people developed here centuries ago.
You enter the trail from the road between Nová Ves and Prameny, following green marked signs through the forest paths. Sturdy footwear is advised since the route passes through wooded areas where ground conditions can become slippery after rain.
The trail crosses the largest serpentinite rock area in the Czech Republic, which supports rare plant species adapted to this mineral-rich soil. These special plants grow almost nowhere else in the region and offer visitors insight into an unusual ecosystem.
