Sokolov Muzeum, Regional museum in Sokolov, Czech Republic
The Sokolov Muzeum occupies the first floor of the castle and displays thirteen exhibition halls focused on regional history and industrial heritage. The collection includes minerals, musical instruments, and other objects that document how the area developed over time.
This institution was founded in 1934 and first stored its collections in a Capuchin monastery. After World War II, it relocated to the castle in 1945 where it remains today.
The museum displays regional minerals, local wildlife specimens, and traditional porcelain pieces that reflect the area's craft heritage. These collections let visitors understand the everyday culture and craft traditions of the Karlovy Vary region.
The museum opens in the morning and early afternoon with a midday break between sessions. Guided tours can be arranged by phone if you want more detailed information about the collections.
This institution manages several branches located at historically significant mining sites in the region. These distributed collections allow visitors to experience the area's mining history at the places where it actually happened.
