Church of Saint Francis of Assisi in Chodov, Roman Catholic church in Chodov district, Prague, Czech Republic

The Church of Saint Francis of Assisi in Chodov is a Roman Catholic parish church on Na Sádce street, completed in 1938 by adding a tower, a new roof and a sacristy to an earlier slaughterhouse building. A modern extension with two sacristies, two club rooms and a vestibule with confessional, clearly visible from the east, was added in the 1990s.

The church was completed in 1938 by adding a tower, a new roof and a sacristy to an existing slaughterhouse building; it was initially intended as temporary. In 1942 its old municipal bell was taken for war purposes, and in 1948 it received two new bells by R. Manoušek of Česká u Brna. During the construction of the Jižní Město housing estate in the late 1960s it was to be demolished, but the faithful saved it.

The front wall carries a fresco by academic painter Karel Solařík, and part of the furnishings are the work of local native J. Konvička. The church first received an old municipal bell as a gift; it was taken away in 1942 for war purposes, and in 1948 two new bells by R. Manoušek of Česká u Brna arrived.

The church stands on Na Sádce street in Chodov, in the southern part of Prague. The modern 1990s addition of sacristies, club rooms and a vestibule with confessional is clearly visible when viewed from the east side of the building.

The church narrowly escaped demolition in the 1960s when Jižní Město housing estate was being built. Local parishioners fought to preserve it, allowing it to remain a central point in the neighborhood's development.
