Church of Saint Gotthard

The Church of Saint Gotthard is a three-nave building with a presbytery, net vault, and sacristy located in the center of Slaný. This layout shows the typical arrangement of a medieval church, with different sections that served various functions during worship.

Benedictine monks from the Ostrov monastery built this church between 1130 and 1150 as a Romanesque basilica. The building was later transformed with Gothic features that still define its appearance today.

Inside, you find paintings from the 1500s showing Christ and the Evangelists, along with a baptismal font made in the Renaissance style. These artworks shape how the church looks and show what this place has meant to the community over time.

The building is accessible from outside and allows visitors to explore the architectural features and interior space. When visiting inside, be aware that prayer services may be taking place and respectful behavior is expected.

The wooden roof structure dates back to the Gothic period and displays the craftsmanship techniques of that era with visible wood joints. The western facade features portals from the early 1500s, which are ornately decorated and showcase the skilled work of medieval artisans.
