Česká Kanada

Česká Kanada is a cultural landscape with granite formations, dense pine forests, and numerous ponds spread across rolling hills between Jindřichův Hradec and Slavonice. The terrain mixes rocky outcrops with water bodies and tree-covered slopes that create varied scenery.

The name Česká Kanada came about in the 20th century when geologist František Krutský noticed how the local landscape resembled Canadian scenery. This observation reflected how people at that time were drawn to comparing remote natural areas they had read about.

The region preserves traditional Czech rural buildings with stone farmhouses and wooden barns that reflect agricultural heritage. Village layouts here still show how farmers and families organized their communities centuries ago.

The area features marked hiking trails and cycling routes that connect natural landmarks, historical sites, and villages throughout the region. You can walk or bike at your own pace or join organized tours if you prefer guidance.

The granite formations here contain high amounts of radon gas, making this one of Europe's most naturally radioactive regions. This geological fact has drawn scientific attention and researchers continue studying its environmental effects.
