Krudum, Communication and observation tower in Horní Slavkov, Czechia.
Krudum is an observation and communication tower made of steel, located on Mount Krudum near Horní Slavkov in Czechia. It stands about 50 meters tall, with a viewing platform roughly 30 meters up, reached by climbing an interior staircase of 152 steps.
A first tower was built on the summit in 1932, then used for military purposes after World War II before being demolished in the 1970s. The current steel structure was erected in 2008 to take its place.
From the viewing platform, visitors can see the Ore Mountains, the Doupov Mountains, and the Slavkov Forest on a clear day. The tower is a popular destination for hikers who come to the area on weekends.
The tower can be reached by foot along marked hiking trails, including a yellow-marked route from Hrušková and a green-marked one from the former settlement of Milíře. Both paths go uphill, so sturdy footwear is a good idea.
The tower sits at about 835 meters above sea level and serves both as an active telecom mast and a freely accessible viewpoint at the same time. Most structures of this kind are off-limits to the public, so the open access here is something of an exception.
