Talmberk Castle, Gothic castle ruin near Talmberk village, Czech Republic
The medieval fortress stands on a rocky promontory in a deep wooded valley, with remaining stone walls revealing its defensive position along Talmberk stream.
The castle, first documented in 1297, belonged to the Talmberk family until 1473 when they lost their rights, leading to its gradual deterioration and abandonment by 1533.
The ruins represent Czech medieval architecture through their Gothic design elements, earning recognition as a protected cultural monument of the Czech Republic in 1966.
Visitors can access the castle ruins at any time without admission fees, with coordinates N 49° 52.034 E 014° 57.355 guiding them to the location.
Local inhabitants repurposed stones from the abandoned castle during the 18th and 19th centuries, building their homes within the former castle grounds.
