Pomník Jana Žižky v Čáslavi, Bronze monument in Žižka Square, Čáslav, Czech Republic.
Pomník Jana Žižky v Čáslavi is a bronze sculpture depicting the military commander on a rectangular pedestal designed by architect Antonín Wiehl. The statue occupies a prominent position on the central square of this small Czech town.
The monument was unveiled in 1880 by sculptor Josef Václav Myslbek to commemorate the Hussite military leader Jan Žižka, who died in this town in 1424. Its creation reflected 19th-century efforts to honor important figures from Czech medieval history.
Art historian Miroslav Tyrš influenced the statue design by requesting that Žižka be portrayed wearing a fur coat and armor.
The statue stands in the southern section of the square, making it easy to spot from various angles around the public space. The location offers good access and visibility for visitors exploring the town center on foot.
The sculpture was crafted by sculptors František Hergessel and Antonín Procházka following Myslbek's design, blending Neo-Renaissance style with realistic details of the period. This collaboration between artists demonstrates the high craftsmanship valued in late 19th-century public monuments.
