Vinice, Observation tower in Úvaly, Czech Republic.
Vinice is an observation tower in Úvaly featuring a steel structure with a spiral staircase that leads to a viewing platform overlooking the surrounding landscape. The tower serves a dual purpose of observation and radio transmission, integrating both functions into its design.
Construction of the tower began in 2013, replacing an unauthorized telecommunications mast that had previously occupied the site. The project emerged from the need to combine legitimate transmission infrastructure with public access to views.
The name Vinice comes from a vineyard that once covered the southern slopes of this hill, reflecting the area's past agricultural identity.
The tower is freely accessible during daylight hours and sits roughly 650 meters from the town square, making it a manageable walk from the town center. A marked path guides visitors up the hill to reach the structure.
On clear days, the viewing platform reveals distant mountain peaks including Říp and Bezděz, as well as Prague's distinctive television tower visible across the landscape. This far-reaching panorama is a memorable reward for the climb.
