Potštejn, Castle ruin in Žinkovy, Plzeň Region, Czech Republic

Potštejn is a ruined castle on a promontory above the Labuť pond near Žinkovy in the Plzeň-jih district, at about 530 metres. Its rectangular core had a round bergfried, a vaulted palace along the west side and a smaller palace wing on the south; an outer bailey with a wall lay to the east.

Potštejn was first mentioned in writing in 1259, when it belonged to Půta of Potštejn of the Drslavic family, burgrave in Domažlice. Bavor of Potštejn, the last owner to bear the castle's name, was mentioned in 1414 and died in 1437; the castle passed to Přibík of Klenová. In 1525, during a division of property among Přibík's great-grandsons, it was recorded as deserted.

The castle's name passed to the Drslavic family line of Půta of Potštejn, documented in 1259, and the last owner to use the title was Bavor of Potštejn, mentioned in 1414. By 1525, when the estate was divided among Přibík of Klenová's great-grandchildren, the castle was recorded as deserted.

The ruin lies on a promontory above the Labuť pond at about 530 m; reach it on the yellow-marked trail from Žinkovy Castle to the Nový rybník crossroads on road II/191. Access is free and unrestricted, and the site has no staffed facilities.

The castle was already described as deserted in 1525, when Přibík of Klenová's great-grandchildren divided the estate. The round bergfried stood at the head of the core, with a vaulted palace along its western side and a smaller palace wing on the south.
