Obchodní centrum Letmo, obchodní dům v Brně
Obchodní centrum Letmo is a shopping center in downtown Brno with eight stories above ground and two below, containing stores and services for groceries, clothes, cosmetics, and more. The building features a modern white facade with irregularly shaped windows and a spacious atrium running through its full height, creating an open and light-filled interior.
The site was reconstructed after a devastating fire in 2002 at a casino that killed two firefighters and left the building charred and abandoned. The new shopping center was built beginning in 2011, preserving only the steel frame of the original structure, and opened on May 2, 2013.
The shopping center serves as a gathering place for locals and visitors, where restaurants like the Italian bistro and Asian dining options reflect the diverse tastes and backgrounds of people who use the space. It functions as a social hub where casual meetings happen and different food cultures are experienced in a single location.
The center sits directly across from Brno's main train station and is easily accessible, with free parking available for those arriving by car. It is open most days and offers multiple cafes and restaurants where visitors can take a break, plus banking services and a pharmacy for practical errands.
A memorial plaque at the entrance honors two firefighters who died during the 2002 fire, giving the space a deeper historical meaning that many visitors overlook. This quiet remembrance shapes the character of the place and shows how something new and living emerged from tragedy.
