Nábřeží Maxipsa Fíka, Riverfront recreational area in Kadaň, Czech Republic
The riverfront of nábřeží Maxipsa Fíka lines the Ohře River with multiple playgrounds, acoustic play equipment, a steel steamboat installation, and a natural amphitheater designed for gatherings. The area features walkways that connect various sections through contemporary structures and open spaces.
The area transformed from neglected riverbanks with an abandoned summer cinema into a modern recreational space through extensive rehabilitation completed in 2013. This renewal brought a forgotten zone of the city back to active use.
The waterfront takes its name from Maxipes Fík, an animated dog character created by Czech cartoonist Rudolf Čechura, who had ties to the nearby village of Ahníkov. The name reflects local pride in this artistic creation that became part of Czech cultural memory.
Visitors can rent boats from May through September and enjoy refreshments at the Split Restaurant along the waterfront. Public restrooms are available on weekends, and the walkways are easy to navigate.
The riverfront includes twelve different play elements, including a manual water pump system for a boat channel that visitors can operate themselves. A pedestrian bridge designed by Vít Branda connects this zone to surrounding landscapes and offers unexpected views of the river.
