Růženin lom, Limestone quarry in Maloměřice, Czech Republic.
Růženin lom is a former limestone quarry on the slope of the Hády massif near Maloměřice. After extraction stopped, natural springs created several ponds surrounded by limestone rock formations.
This quarry operated until the mid-20th century when extraction ceased. A plan to fill it with clinker ash was eventually abandoned, allowing natural processes to reshape the site.
Local residents use this site regularly for outdoor recreation and nature observation, making it part of daily community life. Families and walkers appreciate it as a natural gathering space within the urban area.
This site is reached via a paved path connecting Maloměřice to the Líšeň district and is accessible only on foot. Wear appropriate footwear as moisture can make the paths slippery.
The spring water maintains a constant warm temperature, creating conditions that support rare heat-loving plants and aquatic species. This biological richness makes the transformed quarry a surprising natural refuge within the city.
