Vodní nádrž Landštejn, reservoir in Staré Město pod Landštejnem, Czech Republic
Vodní nádrž Landstein is a large water reservoir built on the Pstruhovka stream and surrounded by natural landscape. The earthen dam spans approximately 376 meters in length and rises over 23 feet (7 m) high, with water covering about 40 hectares.
Construction of this reservoir began in the early 1970s and was completed in 1973 to protect surrounding villages from floods. It has since served as a water supply source for multiple towns and helps regulate water flow in the region.
The reservoir takes its name from the nearby Landstein Castle that overlooks the area. Today it serves as a quiet gathering place where locals and visitors enjoy walks and rest along the shoreline.
The water is not open for swimming since it serves drinking water supply exclusively, but the dam itself is accessible on foot or by bicycle. The best time to visit is during warmer months when the surroundings most invite lingering.
A steel pedestrian bridge crosses the dam to reach a control tower in the middle of the water, from which water release is managed. This structure gives visitors an unusual vantage point over the surface and reveals the technical side of this vital infrastructure.
