Škoda Palace, Administrative building in New Town, Czech Republic
Škoda Palace is an office building in Cubist style with seven floors above ground and two basement levels. Two interior courtyards distribute natural light throughout the structure.
The building was constructed in the late 1920s as the main headquarters for the Škoda company from Plzeň. This move marked the company's expansion into Prague.
The building reflects how architects of the early Republic period believed work spaces should look and function. Glass and wood surfaces throughout the offices show this practical approach to design from that era.
The building sits on Jungmannova Street with 14 elevators and 7 staircases for moving around. These access points are distributed to help visitors navigate the interior.
A gear sculpture by Otto Gutfreund once stood at the entrance but vanished during later renovations. This artwork was part of the building's original artistic vision.
