Church of Saint Christopher, Wooden baroque church building in Kryštofovo Údolí, Czech Republic.
The Church of Saint Christopher stands as a well-preserved wooden baroque structure built between 1683-1686, featuring traditional timber construction with slate cladding added in 1893 for weather protection.
Originally constructed by carpenter Michl Schnöbel to replace an earlier 16th-century Lutheran chapel, this Roman Catholic church underwent significant rococo renovations in 1760-1761 and received a masonry sacristy addition in 1781.
The interior showcases rococo decorations including painted biblical scenes by J.J. Schöeller from 1760, baroque murals in the presbytery, and ornate altars dedicated to the Fourteen Holy Helpers and Saint Joseph.
Sunday Mass is held at 4:30 PM, with an annual pilgrimage festival during the last weekend of July featuring guided tours, while the church remains accessible via the Česká Lípa-Liberec railway line.
The presbytery unusually faces south instead of the traditional east orientation due to the sloped terrain, while the adjacent bell tower from 1754 houses a historic bell dating back to 1600.
