Mokřad Pumpák, Protected wetland in Hulín, Czech Republic
Mokřad Pumpák is a wetland covering 1.32 hectares situated north of Hulín between railway embankments. The habitat supports amphibians and birds through its shallow water zones and surrounding vegetation.
The wetland formed during 19th-century railway construction when workers excavated materials for embankments, creating water-filled depressions. These unintended earthworks established a valuable ecosystem.
The site gained European significance status in 2005 and received official protection as a natural monument from the Zlín Region in 2014.
The site is accessible via marked walking paths, with informational signs explaining the local wildlife and plant life. Visiting is possible year-round, though bird watching is most rewarding during spring and fall months.
An iron spring emerges at the northern edge of the site, with its flow varying according to rainfall amounts. This mineral water source contributes to the wetland's nutrient composition.
