Hůrka

Hůrka is a fortified settlement on a hilltop near Starý Plzenec with stone walls reaching up to 10 meters in height. The site spreads across the summit and displays a typical medieval layout with multiple structures.

This fortification was first documented in 976, when it served as the administrative center for the western Bohemian region. This role established it as an important seat of early medieval power in the area.

The Romanesque Rotunda of Saints Peter and Paul stands at the heart of the site and dates to the 10th century. It reflects the religious importance this place held in that era.

The site is accessible via a walking trail that starts in Starý Plzenec, roughly 9 kilometers from Pilsen. It functions as an open-air archaeological location that welcomes visitors throughout the year without requiring admission.

Beneath the surface of the site lie the foundations of two additional churches, including Saint Lawrence from the 12. century. These archaeological layers tell the story of multiple building phases and religious structures that existed across generations.
