Crematorium in Litoměřice

The Crematorium in Litoměřice occupies a former brickyard site and contains two large furnaces housed side by side within the converted structure. The building shows how industrial spaces were repurposed for horrific ends and allows visitors to grasp the actual scale and layout of the facility.

This facility was operational between 1944 and 1945 and was connected to the Litoměřice concentration camp, which itself was a sub-camp of Flossenbürg. During this period it processed hundreds of people who were held under inhumane conditions in the nearby camp.

This place represents one of the darkest chapters in European history and serves as a reminder of systematic suffering. Visitors today can confront the physical evidence of what happened and understand how industrial processes were misused in ways no one should forget.

Visits are only possible with advance arrangement through the Terezin Memorial office, which manages access to the site. Educational tours are offered and take several hours, so visitors should plan accordingly and prepare mentally for a serious subject matter.

The building was connected to an underground railway system that was specifically constructed to transport materials and fuel. This hidden infrastructure reveals how systematically and industrially the horrific operations were organized.
