Karlínská kasárna

Karlínská kasárna is a Neoclassical building complex in Prague with grand columns and balanced proportions, topped by a tower with views over the neighborhood. The grounds feature an open central courtyard, interior gallery spaces, and various halls designed for events and activities.

The complex was built in 1848 as military barracks and remained under armed forces control for generations. A major transformation into a public cultural venue occurred in 2017, opening the former military grounds to the public.

The space hosts galleries, film screenings, and performances that bring together artists and audiences throughout the year. These activities have transformed the former military grounds into a gathering place where creative work unfolds regularly.

The grounds are walkable and easily navigable, with cafés and refreshment stands scattered throughout. Seasonal activities change the available options depending on when you visit, so conditions vary between summer and winter.

The central courtyard once served as a parade ground for military training but now hosts open-air concerts and exhibitions. This shift from a drill area to an artistic space is visible in how visitors gather and events unfold there.
