Písčina u Byšiček, Special Area of Conservation in Lysá nad Labem, Czech Republic

Písčina u Byšiček is a 0.43-hectare protected area near the village of Byšičky and the Karlov farmstead, within the cadastre of Lysá nad Labem. It protects open continental-dune grasslands with grey hair-grass (Corynephorus canescens) and bent grass (Agrostis). A statutory buffer zone of 3.58 hectares surrounds it.

Písčina u Byšiček was declared a protected area on 28 February 2017, covering 0.4324 hectares, with a legal buffer zone of 3.5815 hectares. Since 2009, and again from 2013, the site has also been part of the European Natura 2000 network as a Site of Community Importance under code CZ0210730, with a slightly larger area of 0.5217 hectares.

The reserve protects open continental-dune grasslands dominated by grey hair-grass (Corynephorus canescens) and bent grass (Agrostis). It was declared a natural monument on 28 February 2017 on 0.4324 hectares, with a statutory buffer zone of 3.5815 hectares. Since 2009, and again from 2013, the same ground has also been listed as a European site of community importance under code CZ0210730, covering 0.5217 hectares.

The site is maintained through regular mowing to preserve habitats and keep the grasslands in good condition. Visitors should stay on marked paths and respect the management work taking place.

The area displays varying levels of meadow management, ranging from completely mowed sections to zones left with natural growth undisturbed. This patchwork of different management approaches creates diverse habitats for specialized species.
